Own Your Heritage:

Landmarks & Legends

Heritage isn’t just history - it’s stories waiting to be retold, remixed and reimagined by the next generation - you!

Own Your Heritage: Landmarks & Legends is a youth-led programme exploring Grimsby and North East Lincolnshire’s rich heritage through creativity, storytelling and collaboration. From iconic landmarks to local legends, the project invites children and young people to uncover the stories that shape their place – and reimagine them through performance, digital design, illustration, music, theatre, film and more.

Children and young people aged 0–19 are at the heart of the project. A youth steering group helps shape the programme, working alongside professional artists, facilitators and heritage experts to bring their ideas to life.

The project has been co-created by The Culture House and Unseen Arts CIC, commissioned and funded by North East Lincolnshire Council, Arts Council England, The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the UK Government.

“Our local past is full of weird, wonderful and powerful stories. From historic buildings to legendary journeys, heritage can spark fresh ideas for art, music, design, and writing. It gives us a starting point for creative expression that’s rooted in something real.”

“Heritage connects us to the place we live — and to each other. Whether you’ve lived here all your life or just arrived, learning about local stories, landmarks, and people helps build a sense of belonging. It shows us the shared history that communities together.”
