It is with much pride and a little emotion that we announce a significant new funding award for North East Lincolnshire – £1.45million from the National Lottery, to inspire change through creativity!
This is for the next five years of ‘Our Future Starts Here’ – the future-facing arts and culture programme which celebrates our place while bringing national artwork and performance to the area.
Thanks to National Lottery players, the funding sees a longer-term partnership with GreenInfluencers VANEL, Franklin Sixth Form College, University of Hull and Hammond House Productions, bringing you what we aim to be an inspiring and impactful, participatory, cultural programme.
With young people at the forefront, the Our Future Starts Here aims to raise awareness, develop pride in place and inspire everyday action, while supporting skills-growth and connecting to our world-leading green industries.
The programme over five years will include:
  • The creation of five large-scale nature-based murals in residential areas co-created with NEL’s young people, highlighting local wildlife and promoting environmental protection
  • Five annual arts programmes featuring local, regional and national indoor and outdoor art, including installations, immersive activities and performance
  • Weekly young ‘Green Influencers’ groups and activities led by VANEL, leading to collaborative installations and participatory activities at pop-up events
  • An annual STEM conference with a green skills focus hosted at Franklin Sixth Form College connecting to our world leading green industries
  • The creation of immersive soundscapes on future-facing themes by Hammond House and Freestyle Academy
There will also be artist commissions, walks and talks and plenty of opportunities to get involved.
Charlotte Bowen, Culture House director, said: “HOORAY!!! We’re absolutely delighted with this award for North East Lincolnshire, which after years of being the underdog – and due to lots of vision and hard work from many people – is beginning to lead the way in delivering innovative, impactful, creative community projects that make a real difference and move our area on.
“We’re slowly but now surely progressing and Our Future Starts Here will look to the future, furthering understanding of challenging issues while championing our place as a place of innovation, vision and opportunity”
“We want this to be a shared journey for the better.”
